Beginner’s Guide to Cruelty-Free Contouring: Master the Art of Sculpted Beauty

Contouring Techniques for Beginners: A Cruelty-Free Beauty Guide

Contouring has become a popular makeup trend in recent years, allowing individuals to enhance their facial features and create a more sculpted look. While it may seem intimidating for beginners, with the right techniques and products, anyone can achieve a flawless contoured appearance. In this post, we will explore step-by-step contouring techniques that are not only beginner-friendly but also cruelty-free.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools
Before diving into contouring, it is essential to have the right tools at your disposal. Here are some items you’ll need:

1. Cruelty-free foundation or BB cream: Choose a shade that matches your skin tone for an even base.
2. Cruelty-free concealer: Opt for one shade lighter than your foundation to highlight certain areas.
3. Cruelty-free contour powder or cream: This should be two shades darker than your skin tone to create shadows and depth.
4. Cruelty-free blush or bronzer: Select a hue that complements your natural complexion.
5. Makeup brushes: Invest in brushes specifically designed for contouring such as an angled brush, blending brush, and fluffy brush.

Step 2: Prepare Your Canvas
Start by cleansing and moisturizing your face thoroughly before applying any makeup products. This ensures a smooth base for the application of foundation and other cosmetics.

To begin the actual contouring process, apply your favorite cruelty-free foundation or BB cream all over your face using either clean fingers or a damp beauty sponge. Blend it evenly onto your skin until there are no visible lines.

Step 3: Highlight the High Points
Highlighting is an essential part of contouring as it brings forward specific features on our faces while creating contrast with darker shades used later on.

Take your cruelty-free concealer (one shade lighter than your foundation) and apply it under the eyes in an inverted triangle shape. This helps to brighten up the under-eye area and make you appear more awake. You can also apply some concealer on your forehead, down the bridge of your nose, and on your chin.

Blend the concealer gently using a damp beauty sponge or clean fingers until it seamlessly blends into your foundation. Remember to be gentle around the delicate skin under your eyes.

Step 4: Sculpt with Contour
Now it’s time for contouring! Take your cruelty-free contour powder or cream (two shades darker than your skin tone) and focus on areas where you want to create shadows and depth.

Using an angled brush, apply the contour shade along the hollows of your cheeks, starting from near your ears towards the center of your cheeks. Blend it in upward motions towards your temples for a natural look.

Next, lightly dust some contour shade along both sides of your nose if you desire a slimmer appearance. Be sure to blend well so that there are no harsh lines left behind.

For a defined jawline, sweep some contour shade underneath it using either an angled brush or a fluffy brush. Blend it downwards towards the neck area for a seamless finish.

Step 5: Add Color with Blush/Bronzer
To bring warmth and color back to our faces after all that sculpting, we need blush or bronzer – whichever suits our preferences better!

If you prefer blush, take a cruelty-free blush powder in a shade that complements your skin tone. Smile slightly and apply it onto the apples of your cheeks using a fluffy brush in circular motions.

On the other hand, if bronzer is more appealing to you, choose one that is not too dark for natural-looking results. Apply it lightly on areas where sunlight naturally hits – such as cheekbones, forehead, nose bridge, and chin – using a fluffy brush.

Step 6: Blend Everything Together
The key to achieving a flawless contoured look is blending. Use a clean blending brush or a damp beauty sponge to blend the highlight, contour, and blush/bronzer together. This step ensures a seamless transition between all the products used.

Gently go over each area where you applied product, using soft circular motions or light tapping until everything melts into your skin effortlessly.
