Exploring Cream Cleansers: The Gentle Solution for Hydrated Skin

Panel Discussion: Exploring Cream Cleansers
As the skincare industry continues to grow, it can be overwhelming for consumers to choose which products best suit their needs. One type of cleanser that has gained popularity in recent years is cream cleansers. But what are they, and how do they differ from other types of cleansers?
To answer these questions and more, we’ve gathered a panel of experts to discuss cream cleansers and share their thoughts on the best cruelty-free options.
Firstly, let’s define what a cream cleanser is. As the name suggests, it’s a type of facial cleanser that has a creamy texture. It typically has a gentler formula than foaming or gel-based cleaners and is often recommended for those with dry or sensitive skin.
According to Dr. Jane Goodall Institute’s Community Conservation Officer, Jessica Hartel- who also happens to be an avid beauty enthusiast- “Cream Cleansers are formulated with hydrating ingredients such as glycerin, shea butter or plant oils like jojoba oil and avocado oil,” These hydrating ingredients nourish the skin while cleansing it at the same time.”
Panelist number two; Alice Wu founder of Fusspot Collagen Beauty Elixir says one key benefit of using cream cleansers over other types is that “they don’t strip your skin off its natural oils.” She adds that “most foam-based cleansers contain harsh surfactants which can leave your skin feeling tight and dry.”
So far so good! We know what cream cleaners are and why they could potentially work well for us compared to others in terms of hydration levels but what about oily skins?
According to our third panelist – dermatologist Dr Laura Scott – “People with oily or acne-prone skin may shy away from using cream cleansers because they think it’ll make their skin even oilier.” She explains however that this isn’t always true as there are now many cream cleansers on the market that are formulated specifically for oily or acne-prone skin. “These types of cream cleansers often contain salicylic acid, which helps to unclog pores and prevent breakouts,” she notes.
So what should we be looking out for when choosing a cream cleanser?
Panelist number four; celebrity make-up artist and beauty expert, Lillybeth Gonzalez says “When choosing a cream cleanser, look for one that’s gentle and non-irritating,” She recommends checking the ingredients list to ensure it doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals such as sulfates or artificial fragrances.
Alice Wu adds that you should also consider your skin type when selecting a cream cleaner. “If you have dry or sensitive skin, opt for a formula with hydrating ingredients like ceramides or hyaluronic acid,” she suggests. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, go for one with oil-regulating ingredients like salicylic acid.”
Lastly, let’s get into some product recommendations from our panelists!
Jessica Hartel says her favourite cruelty-free cream cleanser is the Pai Skincare Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. She describes it as “gentle enough to use every day but still effective at removing makeup and impurities.”
Lillybeth Gonzalez’s top pick is the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser which she says is “great at dissolving makeup without leaving any residue behind.”
Dr Laura Scott recommends CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser which contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid to help nourish and protect the skin barrier.
Alice Wu swears by The Body Shop Vitamin E Cream Cleanser saying “It works great on my dry skin! It’s creamy yet lightweight texture makes me feel refreshed after each use.”
In conclusion then: Cream cleaners can be an excellent option if you’re looking for something gentle yet effective at removing impurities without stripping your skin of its natural oils. When selecting a cream cleanser, consider your skin type and look for one that contains hydrating or oil-regulating ingredients depending on what works best for you.
